May 22, 1965 was the last job I played as one of the "Fabulous Uniques." I left for the Air Force on May 24, 1965. In 1966 I joined a band in Amarillo, TX. While stationed there playing approximately 9-10 months, mostly 5-6 nights a week. I was reassigned to Thailand and stayed 1 year there, also playing in a band for about 6-9 months. Upon returning to the states in 1968, I was discharged and went home to Gilmore City \where I worked for a small grocery store and resumed playing with a small band (3 piece). Met the "girl" of my dreams while playing one night in Marathon, IA and got married in 1969. After moving to Waseca, MN in 1969 I was employed in a large grocery chain and in 1970 started playing bass in a country but mostly "rock" band for about a year and a half. In late 1972 I joined another band and resumed playing guitar with another rock-n-roll band until about 1974-75. We then moved back to Iowa when I bought my own grocery store in Livermore, IA and I did not play in a band (rock) until about 1981. In 1976 I was asked to join a group and we played "country" music in churches for masses and other type of church services. This lasted until about 1990 when the group finally quit playing due to children, etc. From 1981 until about 1997 I played in 3 different groups. The last one, from 1987-1997, called "Caravan" and then changed the name to "Tight Rope." Before disbanding in 1997 due to work schedules, etc. Since 1997 I have not played in a band except for occasional "jams" with some blues musicians. Getting the "Uniques" back together has been a really great experience and hope we will be able to play a few "gigs" which I am sure will happen with some hard work. |
